Organizing large cancer society fundraiser includes dozens of volunteers
By Mark Schadenberg
I'm proud to point out that I've been a member of the organizing committee for Relay For Life (Canadian Cancer Society fundraiser) in Woodstock for five years -- assisting in public relations, which includes writing these blogs and press releases, but also delves into delivering posters to stores and schools, and posting on Twitter and Facebook.
The launch of Relay For life for 2015 is already underway with sub-committee meetings and planning as the framework for the Woodstock event is shifting this year to a 6-hour fundraiser -- 6 p.m. to midnight on Saturday, June 13.
The first public kickoff or rally is Monday, March 2, 4 - 7 p.m. at the Quality (Inn) Hotel & Suite on Bruin Blvd. in Woodstock. Now known as the Relay Reunion, it's an opportunity to register as an individual or team, register as a cancer survivor participant, discover details about the 2015 theme and other changes to the format, learn about luminaries, sponsorship, volunteering in organizing the event (logistics always needs people who can safely operate a folding ladder), and talk to the guy who wants to promote the Relay For Life Facebook 'group' (me). Watch this blog space for further updates.
